DR WHO'S dogged follower K9 is to be EX-TER-MIN-ATED:
The BBC expects howls of protest from the K9 defence league, the millions of children—and adults—who follow the doctor's TV travels.
But there is no reprieve for the mechanical dog with a built-in computer, pictured here with the good doctor and his former assistant, actress Mary Tamm.
The tin terrier has only himself to blame, the BBC insists.
Producer John Nathan-Turner said,: "He was too clever for his own good. He kept rescuing the doxtor from hopeless situations."
K9, who has been with the series for three years, makes his exit early next year, along with the doctor's companion, Romana.
They will be replaced by a boy and a 21-year-old Australian girl called Tigan.
The BBC is not saying how K9 will meet his end. But he may make occasional guest appearances, from time to time.
