FERMANAGH'S first Book Fair is well under way and the response by children all over the county is "amazing," confirmed Senior Youth Librarian, Mrs. Anna Smyth.
Throughout the week many activities have been organised for children, which include the films, stories, sing-songs and exhibitions, climaxing with the visit of two well-known authors, Terence Dicks, creator of "Dr. Who," and Peter Firmin,, creater of "Basil Brush.
The Book Fair has been organised by the Library Service in conjunction with Hall's Bookshop, of Enniskillen, and its primary aim is to encourage young people to get to know their library and also to purchase books of their own.
When the doors of the new library, at Hall's Lane, opened on Saturday morning at 10 o'clock, the children came in their hundreds, and had the opportunity to see free films and hear stories.
The Fair continues until Saturday, and it will end with a grand sing-song. In the meantime the library staff are confident that all schools will endeavour to give their children the opportunity to visit the Fair.
One of the attractions of the Fair is a "Who's in Space competition and entries have been received from schools all over the county. Book tokens of £20 each will be presented to the best entries from primary and secondary schools.
In the entrance foyer of the library there is a unique display of Victorian and Edwardian children's books entitled "Thrilling Yarns and Dainty Tales," a major feature of the exhibition.
