A FRANTIC message flashed all over the world: Find Dr Who!
A blunder in the BBC archives meant early black and white episodes of the cult sci-fi series were thrown out.
The discovery was made after the show was killed off four years ago and video sales took off.
Many of the shows starring the first two doctors, William Hartnell and Patrick Troughton, were missing.
Rare footage was found in Hong Kong and Nigeria.
"Finding just a few minutes of old film is like discovering gold dust," says Kevin Davis, the man behind this weekend's 50-minute documentary on the famous Time Lord.
He has put together classic clips, vintage interviews and behind-the-scenes material.
"I was two years old when Dr Who first started and I have been a fan ever since. It, has brought back a lot of memories," he says.
