Mrs Low said: "He would sit with his hands over his face and look so afraid, but he would always watch everything. "Anything to do with Doctor Who, anything at all, he wanted to get. He never wanted anything else for his birthday.

"His collection started with a tin robot from his grandmother and he steadily built up the collection over the past decade. "The tin robot has been lost, but the collection now includes models of villains, masks and Doctor Who annuals, including the first one.

Mr and Mrs Low, from South Shields, South Tyneside, have run out of space for the Daleks and huge framed Doctor Who posters that used to adorn Christopher's flat. Money from the sale will be divided between Christopher's brother, Philip, and sister, Francine. Anyone interested in the collection is asked to call
