FAN PAYS £5,500 FOR WHO PROP
A DOCTOR Who fan battled it out in cyberspace and emerged victorious — with a stick of celery for £5,500.
Sci-fi lover Dimity Telfer, 21. forked out for the plastic prop on eBay because it was used as a lapel badge by the fifth Doctor, played by Peter Davison.
The star signed the stick, to make it a mouth-watering trophy for the legions of Who fanatics.
When the BBC put it on eBay for last week's Children In Need. the bidding began at 99p.
Ten days later the highest of the 67 offers was £5.500. by Dimity. from Broome in Western Australia.
She said: "I couldn't let an opportunity like that get away from me and it's for a great cause.
I got into Doctor Who in 2005 and I've been hooked. Peter Davison is my favourite.'" After stumping up the equivalent of 12,760 Australian dollars, Dimity said her ambition was to meet Davison.
He wore celery sticks on his lapel while playing the Doctor and it became his trademark.
Davison was the much-loved Time Lord from 1981 to 1984 and he made occasional comebacks for the show, the last in 2006.
He was also in a special for this month's Children In Need with the current Doctor, David Tennant.
