Telecommunications company Personal Number Agency launches in Glasgow

Dr Who yesterday prescribed the perfect jobs pick-me-up for Scotland.

Former Time Lord Jon Pertwee launched a new telecommunications company in Glasgow which will create more than 300 jobs.

Council worker Billy Low couldn't believe his eyes when he saw the Doctor with his Tardis.

But this time the sci-fi legend was fighting the dole queues rather than Daleks.

Jon was in the city to promote a firm called the Personal Number Agency.

They offer customers a personal life-long telephone number which follows every move.

The idea is to end the headache of changing numbers if you change jobs, move house or go on business trips.

It re-routes your calls, without revealing where you pick up the phone.

Boss Anastasia St Raphael said the service would appeal to large corporations who spend thousands of pounds every year on diverting calls and message retrieval charges. She said it would provide them with big savings.

And she hopes for up to 100,000 subscribers on line within a year.

There was more good news yesterday when the Glasgow Regeneration Fund predicted jobs joy in some of the city's bleakest employment blackspots.

More than 500 jobs have been created by the fund over the last two years.

A fund spokesman said they expect many more to follow soon.
