IT seems to me that Doctor Who fans are a special breed of tele-viewer.
Frankly I have never found it appealing, with amateur sets, predictable plots and mediocre dialogue.
But, I am informed by a close friend who has followed the series since she was very young (and that was a long time ago), that the very ingredients I find obnoxious are part of the show's appeal.
The new series of The Doc begins on March 5 at 6.30 p.m. on Channel Two with Peter Davison starring in his last series.
For the addicts, the first adventure is a four-parter titled Warriors Of The Deep and set in 2024 when the earth is divided into two power blocs, both heavily defended and anticipating an attack.
The Tardis materialises on Sea Base Four, an underwater defence system, just as an attempt is being made to sabotage it.
Lurking in the muddy waters are the Silurians and the Sea Devils who are planning to trigger a world war.
