As a dad to three daughters, I think the BBC's decision to introduce a female Doctor Who is excellent news.
Jodie Whittaker will inspire the programme's young viewers with ideas of gender equality and achievement.
Well, we already have a woman monarch and Prime Minister, for goodness sake!
Curmudgeonly critics such as Paul Routledge should get over their prejudice and give Jodie a warm welcome as the 13th Time Lord (Mirror, July 18).
And sad reactionary viewers who threaten to boycott the programme and burn their DVD collections are probably the same people who, a few years ago, objected to female vicars and are uncomfortable with the idea of women as doctors or airline pilots.
Go, Jodie. I bet the Daleks are quaking.
