VISITING Chalfont St Peter takes on an altogether new dimension with the surprise appearance of Dr Who and his Tardis.

Motorists on the A413 could hardly believe their eves on encountering the time traveller and other characters from the popular TV programme. The crew had landed for some location filming for an episode of the present series which finishes in March. And it will be the last series in which Tom Baker, alias Dr Who, will appear. His place will be taken by Peter Davidson, who played Tristan in BBC's All Creatures Great and Small.

One of the eccentric hero's assistants. Tagan, played by Janet Fielding, dressed as a sort of cosmic stewardess, went before the cameras with actress, Dolore Whitman. As Aunt Vanessa she was suitably attired for the cold in fur-trimmed coat and hat.

Spelling correction: Peter Davison
