PAUL NEW TIME LORD

DOCTOR Who is taking off in his time-travelling Tardis again — this time played by Monocled Mutineer star Paul McGann.

Paul, 36 — also star of The Hanging Gale — beat singer Sting to the role in a two-hour TV film.

He will be the eighth Doctor since the 1963 launch.

The £5million film will be shot in Los Angeles and is jointly produced by BBC Worldwide and Universal Television.

It will be shown in Britain later this year. Six more could follow. Paul said yesterday: "As a kid I loved the show."

The first Tardis-traveller was William Hartnell (1963-66).

Then came Patrick Trougton (1966-70), John Pertwee (197074), Tom Baker (1974-82), Peter Davison (1982-84), Colin Baker (198487) and Sylvester McCoy (198749).
