DOCTOR WHO star Jon Pertwee has a message for producer Steven Spielberg: please don't hand over the controls of the Tardis to Hollywood hunk Hugh Grant.
He thinks that the romantic British star of Four Weddings and A Funeral is too young to play the Time Lord.
Pertwee, 74, wants to see Hollywood villain Alan Rickman have a chance to be the good guy for a change in Spielberg's remake of the classic sci-fi series,
Hugh Grant is far too young. He needs to be more mature — the Doctor is-50 plus," said Pertwee, who played the time traveller on BBC1 between 1970 and 1974.
"Alan Rickman would be perfect. He would be my ideal Doctor Who, especially as he is English."
Pertwee, who also played a scarecrow in the children's series Worzel Gummidge, is honorary president of the Doctor Who Appreciation Society.
