Peter Davison, the fifth Doctor Who (1981 to 1984), is almost certainly not in this weekend's 50th anniversary special. Although that doesn't explain why he has a copy of the script with his name embossed on it …
"How do you know that?" he asks sharply. Switched On points out Davison mentioned it to a UK journalist. "Well, there are many reasons why that might be the case …"
Davison is under strict instructions not to reveal anything at all about The Day of
The Doctor, the 76-minute 3D special celebrating half a century of Doctor Who.
It features at least three doctors — Matt Smith, David Tennant and John Hurt — and will be broadcast in 84 countries simultaneously.
"I've been working very hard on a couple of things to do with it, but I can't give you any more than that," is all he'll say.
Showrunner Steven Moffat has revealed the special is going to be a game changer.
"The story focuses on the most important thing that ever happened to the Doctor," he says.
Davison admits he felt he was too young at 29 to play the role.
"But having seen Matt, and David and Christopher Eccleston, I now feel like I started a trend." THE DAY OF THE DOCTOR, ABC1, SUNDAY, 6.50AM
