THEY were creatures of menace who struck terror into the hearts of children up and down the land.
Now one of Dr Who's sworn enemies has turned up at a car salesroom in Sandbanks, used as part-exchange on an E-type Jaguar.
Gary Davis, of Panorama Bay Motor Company has put the Dalek up for sale for £4,000 or nearest offer after accepting it from a customer whose father worked for the BBC.
Gary has run his classic car company since 1988 and said: "I have been offered some unusual things over the years but never a Dalek.
"It is hard to imagine how you used to watch TV and be so scared of them."
And when he says he's had some unusual part-exchanges, he is not kidding. One customer delivered a helicopter to his forecourt in Panorama Road and the car showroom walls are filled with photos of bikes, boats and even a statue that have been accepted and sold on.
He's had a 1901 Levis motorbike, a Porsche tractor and even a tandem bicicucle used by the French resistance which was found bricked up in a French cottage.
But his business mainly focuses on the sort of dream cars seen flashing across cinema screens. He's bought two Rolls Royces from singing star Tom Jones and currently up for sale is a one-off 1993 racing Porsche.
Which makes it all the more quirky to discover that the most complex piece of technology on a Dalek is a sink plunger. Its shell rests on castors and is moved around by the footwork of an actor sitting on a small seat inside. Its fearsome deathrays are manoeuvred by simple levers and chains.
Gary said: "Someone has made an offer to put it in his private games room - it would make quite a talking point. I placed an ad in the paper saying, 'One Doctor owner - don't know Who.'
It is the sort of thing you only see once even if you wanted to buy a Dalek where would you find one?
