COMMUTERS seeking something new to pass the time during a heavy journey may fancy tuning in to a new range of BBC audio books due out next week.

Eats, Shoots and Leaves' author Lynne Truss has served up a new compilation of short stories — A Certain Age volume 2 — The Men's Monologues.

Almost three hours of entertainment are packed onto three CDs and, in the tradition of Alan Bennett's Talking Heads, comes Ms Truss's six tales of fidelity, pride, friendship and family from the classic BBC Radio 4 series.

Six men have reached a certain age, their fortysomething years, and each has a very different — and sometimes surprising — story to tell, from the brother who receives an unexpected letter to a compulsive philanderer and a news photographer sent on an unusual assignment.

These stories to entertain anyone looking to complete the travel experience star big names like Kent-born actor, Douglas Hodge, Robert Glenister, Peter Capaldi, Stephen Tompkinson, Simon Russell Beale and Stuart Milligan. For Doctor Who fans, though, who can resist The Gunfighters, which follows the doctor's adventures in the Wild West? It stars William Hartnell with a linking narration by Peter Purves. "So come, you coyotes, and howl at the moon 'til there's blood upon the sawdust in The Last Chance Saloon..."

Comedy comes in the form of a popular new box set, I'm Sorry I'll Read That Again, with John Cleese, Tim Brooke-Taylor and Bill Oddie, and features a host of sketches to smile away the commuter blues.

All these audio books are available at all good bookshops or, for more information, contact www.bbcshop.com.
