S.S.A.F.A. fair raises record sum

WHEN actor Jon Pertwee opening the annual Soldiers Sailors and Airmen's Families Association fair at RAF Stanmore Park on Saturday and told everyone to "Spend, spend, spend the visitors did just that and broke all previous fair records.
The total money count at the end of the day was over £1.500 and said Mrs. Ena Constable, chairman of the SSAFA Middlesex Appeals Committee:
We are delighted it has broken all records."
The fair - the 11th of its kind — was held in a giant RAF hangar.
A special refreshment lounge was roped off for the visitors to the many stalls and record number of sideshows.
Over 2,500 people visited the fair and were entertained during the afternoon by the Queen's Colour Squadron of the RAF, and the RAF, Halton, Apprentices physical training team, pipe band. and Corps of Trumpeters.
Before the fair was opened by Mr. Pertwee music was provided by the Central Band of the WRAF.
Mr. Pertwee was introduced to the crowds by Mrs. D. E. Stratford paton and past organiser of the fair.
