HOPES that a new Dr Who movie is imminent have been sparked after a Hollywood special effects company approached a Scots council asking to use one of its blue police boxes.
Arc/Haven Studios approached Glasgow councillors after spotting three trademark blue boxes — which were used as the time-travelling Tardis in the original BBC series — in the city centre.
It is thought that, although they will not actually appear in the new film, a computer generated image will be drawn up from the boxes.
Expensive
Mike Verta of Arc/Haven confirmed he had asked Glasgow city council for permission to use a police box.
He said it would be too expensive to use the real thing in the film.
But the film company has refused to confirm that there has been any development on a new Dr Who movie except to say it is in development stages — despite the fact the Internet has been awash with speculation that a £6 million film is on the cards.
Stars tipped to take the leading role include Eddie Murphy, Will Smith or Denzel Washington — with support actors reputed to be Robert Carlyle and Linus Roache.
