A PLAGUE Of Zombies turned Matthew Waterhouse, 18, from a BBC filing clerk into Dr Who's helper.
That was the name of the Hammer horror film he saw on television years ago that made him decide to become an actor.
And in tonight's episode of Doctor Who (BBC 1, 5.401, he starts his duties as the time traveller's helper, Adric.
Matthew, a barrister's son, lives in Hayward's Heath, Sussex. He says: "When I left school, I got a job as a BBC clerk filing away newspaper clippings.
"But I asked to be considered if there was ever an audition for someone like me."
He soon landed a small part in the serial To Serve Them All My Days, which started last week.
Then he got the long-running role of Adric, a boy from an alien planet, whose life is saved by the Doctor (Tom Baker).
