Ruby and her boyfriend battle the evil Shreek
From battling alien cosplayers to coming face to face with the god of death, Ruby Sunday (Millie Gibson) experienced many life-changing moments during her tenure in the TARDIS.
After finally tracking down her birth parents in last year's finale, foundling Ruby decided to give up travelling with the Doctor in order to spend some time getting to know her folks. But as she returns in this week's episode, Lucky Day, it's clear that adjusting to life back on Earth has not been straightforward.
As well as reconnecting with both her birth parents and her adoptive family, there's been another big change in Ruby's life since we last saw her - she now has a boyfriend, Conrad Clark, played by World on Fire actor Jonah Hauer-King.
MONSTER THREAT
'Conrad is so sweet and clumsy, says Gibson, 20. 'Ruby loves being able to talk about her adventures with someone who is genuinely interested.'
This week's episode sees the debut of a new monster, The Shreek, which poses a dangerous threat to the world, prompting Ruby to team up with her old friends at UNIT to save the day once again - with Ruth Madeley also returning in this episode as UNIT scientific adviser Shirley Bingham.
The past year has been a busy time for Gibson, who is set to star as Irene in 5's upcoming adaptation of John Galsworthy's The Forsyte Saga, but she's pleased that her stint in the TARDIS isn't over yet.
'It feels like returning home after a long day; she says. 'It's so nice to be playing Ruby Sunday in a whole new light. In this season, you see more of a mature, stronger version of Ruby - I'm excited to be back'.
