DOCTOR WHO.

(BBC-1, 7.35)

SYLVESTER McCOY makes his debut as television's most famous time-traveller, and comes face to face with Kate O'Mara as The Rani, one of the deadliest foes from his past, when the 24th season of stories begins tonight.

The Rani sends the Tardis off-course to land on the planet Lakertya, triggering off the Doctor's sixth regeneration into a new physical form.

Bonnie Langford (pictured with Sylvester McCoy and Kate O'Mara) returns as Melanie, and other guest artists in the first story are Wanda Ventham, Mark Greenstreet and Donald Pickering.

Later stories will feature such top names as Brenda Bruce, Elizabeth Spriggs, Richard Briers, Hugh Lloyd, Don Henderson, Tony Selby, Judy Cornwell and Ken Dodd.
