TV star boosts campaign
FEARLESS five-year-old Ian Latham brushed aside Dr Who's dreaded enemy the Cyberman yesterday as he joined Birmingham's Operation Clean-Up Campaign.
The new scheme has been devised with the Dr Who TV programme in mind.
Yesterday veteran doc tor Patrick Troughton and new assistant Bonnie Langford joined with city councillors to call for a cleaner city.
Birmingham City Council is introducing a range of new services in support of the campaign including a litter flying squad street collections and graffiti removal groups.
Patrick Troughton said: "I give this campaign my fullest support Birmingham is a city that has got everything and if we can make it a cleaner city than I don't see why we can't win the 1992 Olympic bid."
Diminutive dancer Bonnie Langford who joins the series this winter said: "It is up to all of us to keep the city tidy. If Birmingham wants to compare with the glossy cities of the Dallas and Dynasty soaps then we must start making an effort now."
The two stars were joined by a host of Dr Who aliens in Chamberlain Square all united in their aim to exterminate the city's litter monsters.
