Seen here with Doctor Who memorabilia, the producer of the series, John Nathan-Turner, is holding the Saturn 1983 International Award, which has been awarded to the programme by the American Academy of Science Fiction Fantasy and Horror. The academy has also given an award to Tom Baker for his portrayal of Doctor Who in past series.
Doctor Who reaches its 20th anniversary on November 23, and the programme's American distributor, Lionheart Television, has arranged for so far over 30 stations there to mark the occasion with transmission of the new 90 minute special production, The Five Doctors, which has been reported on in Television Today.
The distributors are also planning a "birthday party" for the programme involving 80 stations across America.
BBC Enterprises says that Doctor Who is now seen weekly by 98 million viewers in 38 countries.
