[edit]

This is one of those times when I could do with a Tardis of my own, if only to travel a few weeks into the future to watch this episode on " iPlayer, scoot back and then give you my verdict. Because, at the time of writing, all I have is a meagre synopsis, scant cast information and, crucially, no preview.

All we do know is that the Tardis will abandon the Doctor and Donna in the middle of Hostile Action. And the capital H and A are important here because, as die-hards will know, the time machine has a defence mechanism known as HADS — the Hostile Action Displacement System, which results in the police box dematerialising when it comes under attack.

But what is this threat? And can the Tardis be recovered? Your guess is as good as mine, but there'll no doubt be much to grapple with, both in the drama and on spin-off documentary Doctor Who: Unleashed, which follows on BBC3.

Christmas preview: page 16

Caption: D FOR DANGER Deep in Hostile Action, what lies ahead for the Doctor (David Tennant) and Donna (Catherine Tate)?
