NOT everyone, it seems, is overjoyed at the news that Peter Capaldi is to be the next Doctor Who—the announcement wasn't to the taste of former Coronation Street star Sarah Lancashire.
The actress, married to Peter Salmon, the BBC's Director in the North at Salford Quays, appeared in the show herself in 2008, when David Tennant was the Time Lord at the helm of the Tardis.
'My money was on someone like Tom Conti,' she admits, 'who I thought would have been splendid in the role —as long as he had me as his assistant, of course! But I'm glad it's gone to someone a little bit older for a change.
'I'm not one to think that it should be played by a woman. That's ludicrous, and equality gone a bit too far.'
Adds Sarah, 49: At my time of life, I'm getting to realise that I've done a lot of things of which I am very proud.
'I'm on the wrong side of 40 now, but, thank God, I'm still working, and pretty continuously.'
