MEGA-RICH BBC executives could see their wages slashed by a Tory government.

Leader David Cameron aims to give better value to viewers who fund the channel through their licence fee.

If the Tories are elected, Cameron says he will impose a raft of measures including a £200,000 cap on fat-cat salaries, a freeze on the licence fee and a restriction on the channel's internet ambitions. Pay is the top issue with the party claiming it's madness that top BBC staff earn more than Prime SELL-0 Minister Gordon Brown. Tory culture spokesman Jeremy Hunt says parts of BBC Worldwide, which sells shows such as Dr Who by abroad, could be sold off. And channels with low audience figures like BBC3 and BBC4 could be scrapped altogether.

The plan comes after Government officials claimed the Beeb has expanded too far and is "crowding out" its competitors such as ITV and Channel 4.

Mr Hunt said: "We don't want to become a one-broadcaster state."

Last night BBC director general Mark Thompson hit back: "To threaten creeping abolition when FF: Hunt they take a different view from you is not in keeping with the tradition of political independence in public broadcasting."
