THE BBC have found a new girl assistant for Dr Who ... and she's out to put the doctor in his place.
Australian actress Janet Fielding, 23, the first foreigner to play the doctor's assistant, joins the east in the New Year.
Appropriately enough she plays an Australian, an air hostess who has the strange name Tegan.
Said Janet today of her new character: " Tegan is young, bright, brash and assertive and she's not at all afraid of putting the doctor in his place."
She added: "Tegan tends to charge in without thinking at times, but deep down she's a very caring person."
Tegan will be the 16th girl assistant for Dr Who, currently being played by Tom Baker. He's been surrounded by more girls than playboy boss Hugh Hefner.
Janet, whose father Is a scientist in Brisbane, is currently appearing in a touring production of Crown Matrimonial at Harlow.
Producer John Nathan-Turner said he interviewed a 100 girls before he was able to choose Janet. He recently came in for a lot of criticism when he decided to axe K9, the doctor's tin terrier.
