[edit]

AFTER months of speculation the new Dr Who has been chosen — Peter Davison, who was Tristan Farnon, the girl-chasing vet in All Creatures Great And Small

Peter, 29, will take command of the famous Tardis time machine next year and set about the task of sorting out space creatures rather than farm beasts.

The BBC say he is the ideal choice as the fifth Dr Who.

"Peter is so right for the role." program producer John Nathan Turner said.

"He is very popular with children and has a large following with feminine viewers."

He has also become a firm favorite with British mums — for the way he presents the children's story program. Once Upon A Time.

But he does face a slight snag in his space adventures. He's a chronic blusher.

Tin dog out of the series

"It is so bad that even hearing someone talking about blushing is enough to make me go bright pink if I've done or said something silly," he said.

There are certainly lines in the script — like explaining he is 900 years old with two hearts — which is enough to make anyone go red.

However, he won't have the same problems as the retiring Dr Who — Tom Baker — who had to talk to a tin dog.

The little robot K9 is being dropped from the series. Peter, who is married to Sandra Dickinson joked: "The sky's the limit with Dr Who. And if I get chucked out of my home I'll always have a police box to live in!"

Peters task as the indestructible time lord will be boosted by another new face ... 23-year-old Janet Fielding, an Australian who will play a character called Tegan.
