BRADLEY WALSH has emerged as the favourite to star as the new Doctor Who's assistant.

The actor, comedian and quiz show host, 57, will reportedly accompany Jodie Whittaker, 35, who is the long-running show's first female lead and the 13th incarnation of the Time Lord.

'Bradley is super excited to be joining the cast of Doctor Who in such a key role,' a source told the Daily Mirror.

Actor Matt Lucas, who played a companion next to Peter Capaldi's Doctor, tweeted: 'No idea if the story is true, but if it is I love it.'

One commentator added the casting was 'so ridiculously out of the box it might just work', another said 'I've never wanted anything to be truer' while @askyerfather said: 'This is wrong isn't it.'

The BBC has refused to comment on the speculation.
