A TEESSIDE actress gained rave reviews for her starring role in the Doctor Who Christmas special.
Faye Marsay as Shona in the Doctor Who Christmas special
Faye Marsay, 27, from Loftus, played Shona on the Christmas Day television show after a whirlwind year which saw her appear in hit Channel 4 comedy Fresh Meat and make her film debut.
After her prime-time December 25 appearance, Faye said on Twitter: "Thank you for all the lovely comments. I LOVED having the privilege of being in Doctor Who. Merry Christmas! All the best."
The former Laurence Jackson School and Prior Pursglove College student received praise from fans of the show, who saw potential for her character to return in the future as a possible companion for the Doctor.
A review in the Daily Mirror said: "Faye Marsay stole the show in the comedy stakes."
Doctor Who fan sites also gave her the thumbs-up - especially for one scene when she fights off a monster by dancing to Slade's classic Merry Christmas Everybody.
Simon Brew, writing on denofgeek.com, said: "She mixed her role with a tinge of sadness at the end as she tried to organise a reunion. Marsay's performance was excellent."
Earlier this year, Faye also starred alongside Bill Nighy and Dominic West in acclaimed UK film Pride.
