[edit]

Dr. Who is taking the country by storm as public television stations sign up for the longest running program ever to air on BBC television. After 20 years in production, featuring five different lead actors, Dr. Who has arrived in our area and can be seen weeknights at 10:30 p.m. on KUED.

To introduce you to some of the creatures Dr. Who has encountered in his travels through time and space, here are some jottings from his 500-year diary.

Krynoids: Vegetables that follow you and swallow you. Peripatetic pods, even. Flatter myself that I know all about this garden pest.

K9: Canine. Get it? A computerized dog with an IQ over 300.

Mandragora: Sounds like a mix between a plant and a dragon, but actually something much more sinister. You can't see it but you can feel it working on you.

Morbius: Messy and unpleasant. A brain on the lookout for a head.

Mummies: One of the nice things about being a Time Lord is that I enjoy biological built-in advantages. Like a respiratory by-pass system. A mummy in "Pyramids of Mars" tried to strangle me, but I switched to overdrive.

Xoanon: Would you believe a schizophrenic computer. If not, why not?

Of course you can watch Dr. Who each weeknight in the privacy of your own home, but, if you want to get together with a group of science fiction fans, be sure to attend "Outre-vention", A Science Fiction and Fantasy Convention to be held in Salt Lake City, November 18-21. Special Guest: Poul Anderson. For more information write to : "Outre-vention", 5109 West 6435 South, West Jordan, Utah 84084.
