[edit]

Tell of yours are to get a new Dr Who in the popular BBC science fiction series.

Jon Pertwee, who has played the doctor for four years, is to leave the programme. He will finish recording the present series in May and will be last seen on the screen in June.

He is leaving to tour in a comedy play and to make a series of "whodunits" for Thames Television.

The BBC said yesterday a new Dr Who had been found but his name was being kept secret until contracts were signed.

He would be revealed next week and starting recording a new series in June to be screened at the end of the year.

Jon Pertwee is the third Dr Who. He took over in January 1970 from Patrick Troughton, who succeded the original doctor William Hartnell.
