SARAH-JANE Smith's next adventure will be on Wearside.
The intrepid journalist - or, at least, her alter-ego, actress Elisabeth Sladen - will among the guests at Dr Who convention Dimensions 2007 at the Holiday Inn in Washington over the weekend of November 10 and 11.
Sarah-Jane travelled through time and space alongside the third and fourth Doctors, played by Jon Pertwee and Tom Baker, during the 1970s and returned for the 20th anniversary special The Five Doctors in 1983 before becoming the first "classic" companion to reappear in the new series when she starred alongside 10th Doctor David Tennant in last year's School Reunion.
The episode was so popular that she was given her own series - The Sarah Jane Adventures - which is now showing on Children's BBC.
The series actually marks Sarah-Janes's second solo outing, as the character also appeared with the Doctor's metal mutt K-9 in Doctor Who's first ever spin-off "K-9 and Company" back in December 1981.
On TV, K-9 is busy sealing up a black hole but he will be reunited with his owner next weekend, when Elisabeth is joined at Dimensions by John Leeson, who has provided the dog's prissy tones since it first appeared 30 years ago.
And even the Doctor himself will be putting in an appearance.
Colin Baker, the sixth actor to play the role, will be among the guests, alongside Nicola Bryant, who portrayed his companion Peri.
Others in attendance include Katy Manning, who played Sarah-Jane Smith's predecessor Jo Grant, and Anthony Head.
Best known for his roles in the 80s Gold Blend ads and as Rupert Giles in Buffy the Vampire slayer, he appeared as the villainous headmaster Mr Finch with Elisabeth Sladen in School Reunion.
One unlikely guest will be The Bill's PC Stamp. Actor Graham Cole is now best known as Sun Hill's long-serving beat bobby, but was a regular guest artist in Dr Who in the 80s.
The event is being organised by Essex-based Tenth Planet.
Spokesman Derek Hambly is promising plenty to keep the show's new generation of fans entertained.
"We will have a photo stall, where people can have their pictures taken with the actors, and there will be Daleks and Cybermen walking around, as well as other activities for the kids," he said.
Tickets for Dimensions 2007 are available from 10th Planet Ltd, Unit 37a Vicarage Field Shopping Centre, Ripple Road, Barking, Essex, IG11 8DQ.
Credit card bookings may be made by telephone or through the website www.tenthplanet.co.uk/dimensions.
