The show, broadcast in 2003, sent shivers down the nation's spine but left ITV bosses celebrating as it was watched by 19.4million viewers. Second in the list of TV's scariest scenes were The Daleks from Dr Who with their catchphrase "exterminate, exterminate". Cybermen The Time Lord's arch-enemies, who are set to return in the new series starting tonight, have previously been voted Britain's most evil TV villains. In third place was an episode of Cracker starring Robert Carlyle as a terrifying psychopath. Illusionist Derren Brown's seance, where he managed to convince participants they were contacting the dead, was fourth. He was followed by more Dr Who monsters, the Cybermen, the emotionless humanoids who scared a generation of children. The survey of 1,023 people was carried out for furniture retailer Harveys to mark the return of Dr Who. The Coronation Street storyline was previously included in a list of the 100 scariest moments seen on screen by Channel 4 which included the movies The Exorcist and The Texas Chainsaw Massacre.
