Travel back in time for some magic memories, and Who 
better to kick things off than the Doctor — and that scene ...

... which is the Moment of the Year as chosen by you (see our top ten opposite). If you remember - sniff! - our pin-striped traveller (David Tennant) has been separated from his beloved Rose (Billie Piper) after saving the Earth from Cybermen and Daleks. The Doc has one last chance to contact Rose, now living in a parallel world, by projecting an image of himself

The Doctor: Here you are, living a life day after 
day. The one adventure I can never have.

Rose: Am I ever going to see you again?

The Doctor: You can't.

Rose: What are you going to do?

The Doctor: I've got the Tardis. Same old life.

Last of the Time Lords.

Rose: On your own? [The Doctor nods]  I ... I love you.

The Doctor: Quite right, too. And I suppose,

if it's my last chance to say it, Rose Tyler...

Of course, we never found out what he was going to say, as the Doctor's transmission faded. So what was it that was left unsaid? Here are some alternative endings:

DAVID TENNANT, HOW WAS IT FOR YOU?

How did 2006 start? 

I was in Cardiff, which is where I am most of the time these days, filming the finale to series two. I was also facing the prospect of Doctor Who without Billie in it, but I was very much looking forward to coming back and doing another lot.

So how did you feel prior to series two going out in April?

It was quite daunting, quite nerve-racking. But the fact that the Christmas episode had been and gone took the edge off that because people seemed to like it. When anything comes out, you're nervous and hopeful, and all those contrary emotions. But because Doctor Who gets so much attention and scrutiny, everything was amplified.

Professional highlight of 2006? 

I'm very pleased that Doctor Who seems to be entertaining people. I was also very pleased to get to work with [writer] Tony Marchant in between, on Recovery, which is due out next year.

It just feels like a kind of rolling professional high. I feel in a very heady place working with Russell T Davies and all the incredible people who work on the show, who I continue to be in awe of.

Personal highlight of 2006?

We work so hard on the show it's very difficult to separate professional life from personal life. There doesn't seem to be much personal life as we bowl from one episode to another.

It's difficult to say at the moment, I'm just too close to it. I think I'll be able to tell you in five years' time. At the moment it's all such a rollercoaster, we just seem to hurtle from one event to another on the show. That's fantastic, but it's very difficult to get any objectivity.

What's happening next year?

First I'll go home for Christmas - go and see the family. I don't know what I'll be do ing on Hogmanay yet - I haven't quite figured that out, but we start work again on the 2nd or the 3rd of January. So I'll need to behave myself ... relatively.
