Anyone asking who owns the 48-foot trailer, which will be parked outside Hillsboro High School on March 14 and 15, will have already answered the question.

Who? None other than Who, himself, the inimitable Dr. Who, and the trailer will be the Whomobile, an "experience theater on wheels," filled with the actual monsters and villains from the popular science fiction series that airs each Saturday at 9 p.m. on [[broadwcast:WDCN-Channel 8|WDCN-Channel 8]].

Veteran British actor Jon Pertwee, the third of six actors to have played Doctor Who, will also be on hand to answer questions from fans.

Viewers will enter the trailer through a TARDIS—Dr. Who's means of traveling through time and space—and the exhibit is highlighted by special-effect animation, lights and sound.

After Doctor Who's fans pass through the trailer—about a 20-minute passage, according to organizers of the Doctor Who Celebration and Tour—they may proceed to the high school's auditorium, where more Who-mania will be underway.

There will be an hour of never-before-seen-in-Nashville documentary videos, detailing the making of the series and providing a behind-the-scenes look at the production of Doctor Who.

In addition to the videos, Jon Pertwee will be on hand for two guest appearances in the auditorium each day to answer questions from the audience.

Doctor Who has been aired by the British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC) in England for 24 years, and the six actors who have played Doctor Who have each brought their own particular personalities to the series.

Pertwee played the doctor from 1970-75, and on this tour he is reunited with "Bessie," a yellow vintage car built on a 1953 Ford chassis, which was built for Pertwee's character.

"Bessie and I survived our many adventures, which 'saved the earth' countless times," said Pertwee. "It's a pleasure to be traveling with her again."

WDCN has only been showing Doctor Who since 1984, but it has gathered a large and faithful audience here, numbering about 12,000, according to Andrew Davis, promotions director for the station.

"They are a very loyal and diverse group of viewers," he said. "Doctors, academics and all types of people. Many people appreciate the fact that it's a show the whole family can watch."

The Whomobile will be open on Saturday, March 14, from noon-8 p.m. and on Sunday, March 15, from noon-6 p.m.

Admission will be $6.50 per person, and for members of Channel 8, who bring a Preview magazine with their name on the mailing label, admission will be $5. Children under six will be admitted free.
