Doc fears fans will hate him


NEW Dr Who David Tennant is desperately hoping he won't be a sci-fi flop.

The hunky actor is terrified he'll get the sack —before he's even been seen on screen.

And he's pleading with BBC chiefs: "Please don't exterminate me!"

Tennant believes departing doc Christopher Eccleston, 41, is a hard act to follow and worries that fans may not warm to him.

But he has vowed not to "do an Eccleston" and quit after just one series — as long as the Beeb wants him to stay. The 34-year-old Scot says he'll remain as the Time Lord for at least two series —and maybe more.

"I'm here to stay as long as I'm not sacked," he tells Jonathan Ross, 45, on his telly chat show.

"It's a bit of a gamble. The danger is that you get stuck with it but the only other option is you don't do it. I didn't want to be that guy. "As long as I don't get the sack I'll do another series." Casanova star Tennant takes control of the Tardis for the first time in a Christmas Special episode of the BBC1 sci-fi saga.

He says: "It's almost too exciting, all a bit daunting. "It was the most successful TV show of the year —if it all goes wrong it's my fault. I loved it when I was a kid. Tom Baker was the one I grew up with."
