SOPHIE ALDRED, back on the box as Dr Who's tough, streetwise sidekick Ace, claims to be a softie in real life.

And she sticks to softie drinks since giving up booze last year—alcohol was making a sinus problem worse.

Sophie, 27, also hosts the kiddie's show Corners. Here's her lifestyle:

HOME: I live in a two bedroom flat near Peckham, South London, which I bought two years ago for £68,000.

ROMANCE: I met my boyfriend a year ago—but I'm keeping him a secret. He is also in showbusiness.

NIGHTLIFE: We rarely go out. But we did go and see Batman the other day.

SOCIAL LIFE: I get on really well with Sylvester McCoy, who plays Dr Who. At weekends I go to his house and play with his kids.

SPORT: My boyfriend and I play a lot of tennis. He's better than me

CAR: It's a Citroen AX and I've got a really nippy Honda 1125 bike which I sometimes use to travel to work.

CLOTHES: I've got a shoe fetish. I've got 30 pairs, all of them with Doc Marten soles.

FILM: Hitchcock's Spellbound is my fave.

TV: I love Columbo. Peter Falk is a brilliant.

DRINK: Since I've given up alcohol, 7-Up has become my No 1 tipple.

FOOD: I usually eat in the BBC canteen. I have a jacket potato with salad.

AMBITION: I really wanted to host Treasure Hunt, but Annabel Croft pipped me to the post.

MOST EMBARRASSING MOMENT: I fell over and over and couldn't stop giggling right at the end of a complicated Dr Who scene. The director went mad and there was no time to reshoot it!

PET HATES: I hate smoke. Just after the King's Cross disaster I had a real go at these louts for smoking on the Tube. They stopped!

----

SOPHIE'S CHOICE 10

1 VIOLIN CONCERTO—Bruch. It's dramatic and makes me cry.

2 ALL I WANT IS YOU—Roxy Music. This reminds me of my boyfriend

3 PERFECT—Fairground Attraction. That's our record so guess where we met!

4 OBLIVIOUS—Aztec Camera. It helped me through my drama finals at Manchester University.

5 KISS—Tom Jones. I love the outrageousness of it.

6 ETERNAL FLAME—The Bangles. The lyrics are brilliant.

7 WOODEN HEART—Elvls Presley. Sends shivers down my spine.

8 FAITH—George Michael. He's a brilliant artist and this stands out as his best.

9 DEAR JESSIE—Madonna. It reminds me of my childhood.

10 WHY DON'T PRETTY GIRLS LOOK AT ME—The Wild Men Of
Wonga. They are so wacky and it's a daft title.
