The Doctor battles to save Queen Victoria from a bloodthirsty werewolf

The Doctor wants to take his assistant Rose Tyler back in time to see a punk gig in Sheffield in 1979. but the Tardis has other ideas. The pair emerge from the police box to find it is actually 100 years earlier. They are in Scotland and have stumbled straight into Queen Victoria!

After being held at gunpoint by the Queen's soldiers, the Doctor and Rose are invited to spend the night with the monarch. But far from enjoying the Queen's lavish lifestyle, the pair have to fight a fierce werewolf who wants her dead.

"The Queen meets the Doctor and Rose as they are galloping towards Balmoral Castle," says Pauline Collins, who plays Queen Victoria in this second episode of the 13-part series. "She invites them to stay the night with her friend Sir Robert (Derek Riddell).

"The Doctor senses something strange when they arrive at his house, but can't quite work out what it is."

He soon discovers the reason why the servants are a bit edgy. "They are actually evil monks trying to take over the world," explains Pauline, 65. who recently starred in drama Bleak House.

The monks' master is a caged man, who turns into a fearsome werewolf. He wants to create an empire of wolves and needs to eat the Queen to achieve his wish.

With the Doctor and Rose battling the werewolf, the only way they can protect the Queen is by using the magnified light from her prized diamond as a weapon...

This isn't the first time Pauline has been saved by the Doctor. She starred in Doctor Who in 1967 as damsel-in-distress [[broadwcast:The Faceless Ones|Samantha Briggs]], alongside Patrick Troughton.

"It was quite an unusual episode with aliens taking over humans," says Pauline who lives with her actor husband John Alderton and has three grown-up children. "Patrick was adorable. He was, and still is, my favourite Doctor."
