JODIE Whittaker unveiled her new look as the Doctor yesterday. And her rainbow-themed top has really got fans in a twist.

Some think the colourful stripes emblazoned across her chest are a nod to the show's gay fans.

Other claim it's a reference back to Tom Baker's multi-coloured long scarf from the 1970s.

And a few reckon her costume makes her look like Mork - the alien played by the late Robin Williams in the 1970s comedy Mork and Mindy. BBC chiefs released the new Time Lord's official outfit as filming on the 2018 series is due to begin soon.

Die-hard fans have already spotted a few nods to the past.

David Tennant also wore a long coat, Matt Smith had braces and the late Patrick Troughton, who was the second Doctor in 1966, donned hobo-style baggy trousers.

Doctor Who will not be shown on screens until autumn next year so fans have a long wait to see Jodie in action.
