DR. WHO'S secret postbag at the Leicester Chronicle office was bulging with letters this week, as local children entered our competition for the best letter to Dr. Who. They wrote longingly asking to be included in the next adventure, to have a ride in his super car and even to try on his frilly shirt and long cloak.

Jon Pertwee, television's Dr. Who, came to the Co-op Superstore at Glenfield on Saturday, to a rapturous welcome from his young fans. As he brought his super car along too, their excitement was complete.

Choosing the three competition winners who would meet Dr. Who personally was an exciting task.

The three eventual winners were:

DAVID HUTCHINSON (8) of 4 Chester Road, Blaby, who win £5 worth of toys from the Coop.

HELEN JOHNSON, who is six years old of 72 Orton Road, Leicester (£3 worth of toys), and MARTIN SMITH (1O) of 149 Narborough Road South, Leicester (£2 worth of toys).

David's winning letter was headed "Earth year 1974" and said "Dear Dr. Who, I would very much like to time travel with you in your bat-car Tardis to other worlds. My Mum says I can go with you any time, but since I've joined the cub scouts I've become a lot gooder. I would not be any trouble with you, Dr. Who. I think your last TV adventure with the [[broadwcast:Invasion of the Dinosaurs|dinosaurs]] was great. When I tell nay Dad I would like to be a Dr. Who. he always says 'well work hard at school and be top of the class.'

"Well, could you please tell me what exams I need so that I can be a Dr. Who when you are old. All my love. David Hutchinson."
