Whovians Unite! The Tampa area has a large and growing number of fans of the British sci-fi adventure program "Dr. Who." Yet, despite the fact that Tampa was chosen for a stop on the national Dr. Who fan club tour, the local audience is subjected to postponements and skipped nights on a weekly basis.

Surely [[broadwcast:WEDU|WEDU]], Channel 3, can find some daily time slot not as susceptible to change. Imagine the letdown experienced when I tuned in expecting to see the Time Lord defeating yet another evil nemesis, but instead I am encountered by some elitist program appealing to a narrow-based audience.

Channel 3 also puts on a lot of "Dr. Who" reruns. It's about time the program director adds some more shows to the stock from the over 20 years that "Dr. Who has been running in England. Though I am grateful for the entire adventure being aired on Saturday nights, more should be done to satisfy the appetites of Bay area Whovians.

Channel 3 program director James Stasko said the station is required to carry "Today in the Legislature," a weekday recap of the goings-on in the Florida Legislature. Sometimes the program, which begins at 10 p.m., runs over the time allotted for the weeknight "Dr. Who" episodes. He says there is no other place to strip the half-hour versions. — Editor
