There's a good news/bad news joke for science-fiction fans in [[broadwcast:WPBT|WPBT-Channel 2]]'s new schedule.

First, the good news: The popular British science-fiction series Blake's 7 begins airing tonight at midnight.

The bad news? Another popular British science-fiction series, Dr. Who, is off the air.

Dan Harris, the Broward County man who organizes the annual Omnicon event for sci-fi buffs -- many of them "Whovians" or "Whofans" -- said he's glad Blake's 7 will finally air on Channel 2, but that he expected it to air with Dr. Who.

"The two shows are of interest to the same people; they should be shown one after the other," he said.

John Felton, Channel 2's program director, said he might pair the two shows next fall, but for now he's giving Dr. Who a rest.

"We've completed the entire series and rerun some episodes five and six times. It's time to try something new." Felton said he might run a half-hour version of Dr. Who as a companion to Blake's 7 in the fall.
