An inter-galactic postal service was provided by the Post Office for thousands of young hopefuls writing to inhabitants of other planets. &lt;br /&gt;

In fact, the letters got no further than Post Office headquarters in London, where the 145,000 entries in the 1982 ohildnin's letter written compeition were judged.&lt;br /&gt;

Today actor Peter Davison, who plays Dr. Who in the TV series, presented four star writers with their prizes and praised the high stander of their writers. &lt;br /&gt;

The youngest winner was eight-year-old Timothy Milward of Berkshire.&lt;br /&gt;

David, a keen Dr. Who fan, wants to be a scientist on space shuttles when he grows up.&lt;br /&gt;

He wrote of wars between nations on earth and a &amp;quot;final war&amp;quot; which killed one fifth of the population and solved the unemployment problem.&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
Jacqueline Hancock (16) of Kincardineshire, Scotland, won the 13 to 16 age group.&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
The children each received £250 worth of National Savings and cash prizes of £300 were given to their schools.&lt;br /&gt;
