JODIE Whittaker made an explosive first appearance as Doctor Who in the show's Christmas special yesterday.<br />
<br />
The unveiling of the first female Time Lord signalled the start of wholesale change on the BBC show.<br />
<br />
Boss Steven Moffat and star Peter Capaldi exited after the episode Twice Upon a Time.<br />
<br />
In Capaldi's final scene, he gave a speech as he paced around the Tardis before regenerating into the 13th Doctor, played by Jodie.<br />
<br />
His advice to his next incarnation concluded: "Always try to be nice but never fail to be kind.<br />
<br />
Oh and you mustn't tell anyone your name. No one would understand it anyway.<br />
<br />
"Except children. Sometimes if their hearts are in the right place and the stars are too, children can hear your name. Laugh hard, run fast, be kind.<br />
<br />
"Doctor - I let you go:'<br />
<br />
Light streams poured from him and his eyes changed into those of Jodie.<br />
<br />
The camera then panned to her astonished face as she looked around the Tardis and said: "Oh, brilliant:'<br />
<br />
But her joy was short-lived as a series of explosions shook the Tardis and it lurched violently around.<br />
<br />
In the final frames, she was hurled from the Tardis out into space and time followed with the words "to be continued".<br />
