Middleham Theatre Company

IT ISN'T at the Playhouse at 2:30 pm, as intimated, but is now in Moray House Theatre at 2:45 pm. It is dominated by a script which loves Dr Who not wisely but too well, and it is not irrelevant that the writer, director and one of the actors is Richard Franklin, late of Dr Who. But some of the material is excellent: John Scott Martin produces a splendid self-parody as the Voice of the Supreme Dalek. Paul Holness is one of the finest conversational mime artist I have ever witnessed, Lena Lindewall is a magnificent ice volcano as a Swede playing a Swede playing a Swede playing Margaret Thatcher. David Roylance, as a supposed Who fan in Dalek Service, couldn't go wrong if he tried. There is a very amusing mini-pantomime based on Cinderella to serve the purpose of Hamlet's "Mousetrap." On the other hand, and the other hand is big, Mr Franklin seems to have acquired many of his gags and devices during a chat with Adam, no doubt arranged by the Time Lords. But on balance it is worth a visit, even if you don't know Who.
