MEMBERS OF the Ann Street Association launched their Christmas space-travel theme at Aldergrove airport to-day, when they received the chief Dalek, two 'space girls' and 20 boys, in space suits, aboard an Emerald Airlines aircraft.

Tardis—the facsimile of the space ship in "Dr Who"—will stand in an alleyway in Ann Street for the next five weeks and children who visit it will be taken on a simulated trip into space. achieved with a moving floor and a back drop of a lunar atmosphere.

The chief Dalek, manned by a midget, Mr. Davy Jones, will hand out parcels and answer questions. assisted by the "Space Girls" models Rosemary Long and Brenda Moore.

The Association's chairman, Mr. Robert Russell, explaining why a Dalek would replace Santa Claus. said: "Because of his different orientation, the modern sophisticated child can more readily accept the idea of space-travel than can his parents."

The idea, which will cost the 24 traders who form the association over £l,000, is the brain-child of Mr. David McClay, and Tardis and the Dalek were constructed by a Lisburn display firm.

Theme music has "Dr. Who" will be tine reality to tbe "trip."

Tardis will be open five hours a day. and the cost of the trip and the parcel of toys will be 3s 6d. Tickets will be sold in the Ann Street shops.

When the Lord Mayor, Councillor William Jenkins, goes along to switch on the Ann Street lights on Monday night, he will be "kidnapped" by Daleks and "forced" to switch on the lights. Plans for the "kidnapping" were made this morning at the City Hall, when the Lord Mayor met members of the Association. He was presented with a gold wrist watch for his wife by Mr. Alec Warde, of Adlestones.
