AN historic Dr Who show by Huntingdon Drama Club has been chosen for a special performance in front of the Timelord's biggest fans. Fifty people from the club will travel to Birmingham next month to take part in Aylcon, the Dr Who convention.

They are expected to play to an audience of 600 — more than the total number of people who saw the show when it was performed in Huntingdon last November. The Empress of Othernow will probably be the last British Dr Who production because Hollywood mogul Steven Spielberg bought the rights to the time-travelling classic.

Huntingdon Drama Club won permission to go ahead with the show, written by Peter Vialls, just before the Spielberg deal went through.

Mr Vialls said a Dr Who books specialist who was involved with the production was so impressed that he invited them to take part in the convention at the Birmingham Forte Crest Hotel.

He said the club was now faced with the logistical task of getting 50 people — actors, the backstage crew and their equipment — to Birmingham for the one-off show.

Mr Vialls said the backstage crew would have to work through the night to set up for the show.

"It is going to be fairly hairy because there is no stage," Mr Vialls said.

"The cast are biting their nails a bit because it will be the biggest audience they have performed in front of."

Mr Vialls said big Dr Who fans who had seen the show — featuring the Cybermen — had thoroughly enjoyed it.
