Sex swap for Time Lord

DOCTOR WHO is set to be sex-terminated — and turned into a woman for the first time. Writer Russell T. Davies is thinking of reincarnating the famous Time Lord as a Time Lady.

And executive producer and scriptwriter Russell, 42, said he would definitely "have the nerve" to change the Doc's sex.

Asked if he had a "wish list" of talent for the role, he said: "I would love to get a gripping US star like Sigourney Weaver.

Grabbing

"But you often get an actor who says, 'I would love to be in it', and then you have to speak to the agent."

Last night a BBC source was surprised to hear Davies hint at a female Dr Who. But our spy added: "It would certainly cause a stir.

"I'm sure there are many actresses out there who would love the part.

"All the Doctors have been men so far, but society has changed and I think a female could attract a new audience to the show."

Russell said he drew his inspiration from newspapers like the Daily Star, grabbing what's happening now and placing it in a sci-fi setting.

He said he liked to keep the relationship between the present Doctor (David Tennant, 34), and his sidekick Rose (Billie Piper, 23) "on its toes".

And he revealed that the kiss between the pair in the new series is "a bit of a gag".

Russell said there was a "natural chemistry" between David and Billie, but added if their characters ever consummated their relationship: "I think that would kill it stone dead."

The new series of Doctor Who starts on BBC1 on April 15.

The Dalek-table

HERE are some female candidates for The Doctor we'd like to see on screen...

CHARLOTTE CHURCH, 20: Voice of an Angel would be a sound hit in the Tardis.

JORDAN, 27: Sassy enough to overcome anything — she would send the Daleks packing.

SIGOURNEY WEAVER, 56: Russell T. Davies has already admifted he's a fan.

ANGELINA JOLIE, 30: Would definitely give the ratings a massive boost. Brad could have a role.

DAVINA McCALL, 38: A bit of a disaster with her chat show, so maybe she would like a trip in the Tardis.

KERRY KATONA, 25: She loves sticking it out, so maybe she could have a super-powered tongue.

JK ROWLING, 40: Knows about wizards and sci-fi adventures.

SIENNA MILLER, 24: She wouldn't mind a Tardis voyage to get away from her tangled love life for a while.

KEIRA KNIGHTLEY, 20: Hottest young Brit actress would become an even bigger star.

BILLIE PIPER, 23: It would stretch the imagination a bit, but maybe Rose could somehow morph into the Doc.
