Dr Who £236k Taxi Bill Shock

DR WHO has been blamed for sending the BBC's bill for taxis rocketing.

Bundles of licence fee payers' cash have been exterminated by the time-traveller and his pals.

David Tennant, 34, takes over from Christopher Eccleston, 41, in the next series, roaming the universe in his Tardis with sidekick Billie Piper, 23.

But the show is filmed in Wales — and has been fingered for sending BBC Wales' taxi bill up from £188,000 to £236,000.

The Beeb was yesterday accused of taking viewers for a ride — while 200 staff face the axe at its Cardiff studios. Welsh Tory Culture spokeswoman Lisa Francis, 45, fumed: "It's a lot of money when they're shedding jobs." But the BBC said the taxi fees proved more shows were being made in Wales. Across the UK, the Beeb ran up an £11.8m annual taxi bill —up 3.5%.
