Doctor, I Can't Hear
When the latest Doctor Who series started, it was practically inaudible and I had to turn up the volume from its normal setting of 13 to 31. I was watching it on BBC1 HD.
On 13 September, I tried watching it on BBC1. and found the volume perfectly normal. But during the "Next time" trailer, I switched to HD and the sound level was again very low.
Later, I found the sound level on the Last Night of the Proms rather low, but it was the same on BBC1 and BBC1 HD. However, on HD the picture and sound were out of sync throughout!
Does nobody at the BBC check the quality of its output any more? Nell Lomas Sydney, Crewe
BBC head of technology Andy Quested explains; "Due to an unfortunate breakdown during the Last Night of the Proms, a new link had to be initiated and alas there was no time to check the audio/video synchronisation.
As for the sound problems you're having with Doctor Who, this is mystifying, and could be down to your set-top box. But we did experience volume problems with a recent announcement, due to a technical error by the provider."
