Doctor Who: The Forgotten No. 1 of 6, IDW Publishing; $3.99
Speaking of revived TV series, I'm already on record for loving the comeback of "Doctor Who." The saga of the Time Lord from Gallifrey has always been a favorite of mine, in all of his incarnations.
Incarnations? Yes. Every Time Lord (of which the Doctor is the last) can regenerate up to 12 times. This is very effective in dealing with impending death or the recasting of the series lead. The Doctor is currently in his 10th body, and in IDW's "Doctor Who: The Forgotten" limited series, he's going to have to review all of his previous lives to get to the bottom of a mystery.
In the first issue, the Doctor's memory is tampered with, and he has to get reacquainted with his earlier selves. Tony Lee and Pia Guerra serve up a wonderful primer to the character of the Doctor, getting the difference between the 10th and the first, perfectly. (The flashback to the first Doctor is presented in black and white. Of course!)
If Lee and Guerra can nail the remaining eight incarnations, this series will be an invaluable introduction to the new Doctor Who fan and a wonderful treat for us seasoned vets.
Jeff Kapalka, of Utica, reviews video games and comics for Stars.
